The name "NIDEK" has existed for 120 million years!
This stone, supposed to be some 120 million years old, shows "NIDEK" in Japanese characters on its surface. It was discovered in the Neo Valley of Gifu Prefecture in Japan. This area is well-known for producing beautiful stones that are greatly admired by the Japanese. In prehistoric times the Neo Valley was under the sea. The stone was part of some submarine volcanic rock, and is supposed to have been totally black at that time. Later, as cracks appeared in the stone, quartz formed and created a beautiful design in white.

On this stone you can see the numbers "8" and "1" in Chinese Characters and the letter "H", as well as the images of a horse and cow. We like to consider them signs of good fortune for the following reasons: NIDEK started its business on August 8th (8/8) and "8" is a lucky number in Japan, "1" refers to "Number One", "H" refers to "Health Care" of our new business domain, the horse is the Chinese astrological sign for NIDEK's president Hideo Ozawa, and the cow is considered an auspicious mascot for business in Japan.
31-years- young NIDEK enjoys believing in this stone and its story, maybe even just for fun...how about you?
