Contribution to Society
From "Optoelectronics for Eyes" to "Eye & Health Care"
Since its foundation in 1971, NIDEK has been committed to research and application of Vision Care through Optoelectronics technologies. In the meantime, we have also focused on company globalization through an intense effort to develop a worldwide distribution network, which extends to over 90 countries today. In our constant effort to utilize state-of-the-art technology to contribute to Vision Care, we sense an increasing global demand for improved human healthcare. We have therefore extended our business domain from "Optoelectronics for Eyes" to a broader field "Eye & Health Care." As we face the challenges of the 21st century, we aim for greater success with new business opportunities, and do our best in maintaining the health of mankind.
In the illustration above, I am running around the world with an eyeball (vision care) in one hand, and in the other a box filled with many seeds of new business opportunities in the broader field of health care.
Today, NIDEK has over 1,400 employees, having sales of more than 45 billion yen (450 million dollars) as a group. NIDEK celebrated its 32nd anniversary on August 8th, 2003, and I thank everyone for all your cooperation to achieve the successful growth. We now offer a wide variety of products that includes ophthalmic, diagnostic and optical laboratory equipment, surgical lasers for dermatology, intraocular lenses, semiconductor equipment and ophthalmic pharmaceuticals. Joined by newly established subsidiaries in the US and Italy (NIDEK Technologies America, Inc. and NIDEK Technologies Srl.) in April 2001, we will continue to provide the best in products, quality and service to our valuable customers throughout the world.
